If the kitchen is the heart of the home, the hallway is the face; the first thing visitors see, it gives a taste of what’s inside. The entrance to Abi Donaldson’s Muswell Hill home is the supermodel of hallways. ‘It’s magnificent,’ says Abi, quite correctly. ‘It’s really welcoming, and like a room in its own right with tons of space.’
The grandeur of the space is typical of Edwardian properties, and the hall has retained its original fireplace, encaustic-tiled floor and beautifully carved fretwork. The house itself, which Abi shares with her partner Rebecca, their four children and Frank the dog, has managed to avoid the clutches of developers and has always been a single property. ‘The entrance hall is a great greeting place, and also ideal for kids’ scooters and buggies,’ says Abi. ‘The minute you come through the door you just get this sense of a beautiful family home.’
