If you like the idea of living in one of London’s most iconic buildings, you could be in luck. The long awaited redevelopment of Battersea Power Station is due to start in 2013, and it’s now been confirmed that phase one will include the construction of 800 new homes on the site.

The power station has had a succession of owners since it last generated electricity in 1983, but none have been able to succeed in giving it a new lease of life. But now things are looking up – Wandsworth Council granted planning permission last year, and the owners (leading Malaysian property developers SP Setia) recently announced that preparatory work will begin in the next few months.

As well as housing, there will be plenty of room for shops, restaurants, a gym, a pool, a spa, a theatre and a number of offices.

A six-acre public park will also be built on the grounds, leading directly to Battersea Park.
