Harvest Festival usually brings back primary school memories of tinned soup and an abundance of mouldy pears. However, this is all set to change for North Londoners as feted organic pub, The Duke Of Cambridge, opens its doors this weekend to celebrate the arrival of Autumn with a ‘swap your veg for booze’ initiative.
Keen gardeners, allotment keepers and community growers across London are invited to take along their surplus fruit and veg to the Islington pub between 11am and 4pm, and swap their green-fingered goodies for free beer and 20% off a delicious lunch. Charities Shelter From The Storm and Fareshare will then distribute your donations to the Capital’s homeless.
Those of you who aren’t handy with a hoe can also enjoy the afternoon; sit back with a drink in hand and soak up seasonal cooking demos, a grower’s question time and an honesty box (in case you see a marrow you like the look of). There also prizes up for grabs, including free meals and master classes.
What better way to see in the new season?
